Your contribution to the energy transition

The Project Development Unit predominantly develops utility-scale solar, wind and hybrid projects to be bid in the REIPPPP (or other sovereign backed programs in Africa) or used as the basis of possible utility scale embedded or wheeling projects in the future.  
 
Our Environmental unit within the PD Team ensure that JUWI’s projects comply with the environmental and related permit regulations of our markets, primarily those of South Africa but also other international standards for sustainability. 
 
This internship offers young graduates valuable practical experience in the relevant permitting processes of South Africa's utility-scale renewable energy industry while supporting JUWI’s project development goals.
 
As the Intern - Environmental Permitting, you can look forward to assisting the Environmental Permitting team with the following tasks.
  •  Conducting research on environmental regulations and guidelines related to renewable energy project permitting
  • Assisting in the preparation and submission of environmental permit applications, ensuring compliance with all required standards
  • Supporting the team in environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and monitoring processes
  • Contributing to project documentation and reporting related to environmental permits
  • Assisting with project feasibility and environmental screening making use of the DFFE Screening Tool and other resources
  • Update Permit Registers, draft compliance checklists and other tasks in preparation for project sale
  • Assist with Landowner consent forms and preparing information packs for consultants
  • Assisting with the consolidation of project schedules, project updates and tracking invoice payments
  • Administrative tasks essential to environmental project management such as arranging meetings, note taking, filling and communication with service providers
 
 

Your energy is required

You impress us with these qualifications:
  • A degree in Environmental or Natural Science
  • Proven ability to speak and write fluently in English
  • Possession of a valid, South Africa Code 08 driver’s license.
  • Self-motivated, with creative problem-solving skills
Desirable Attributes
  • A good understanding of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) Environmental Authorisation assessment process; ideally with respect to renewable energy projects
  • Able to perform research, write articles/ reports and present to an audience
  • Positivity and teamwork
Other
  • Willingness to travel to relevant project sites in Africa
  • In addition to the duties mentioned above, the job holder is required to perform administrative duties related to a standard project management role
