Your contribution to the energy transition

The Substation Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely grid connection of PV and BESS projects through effective coordination and interface management related to HV substations. While the role requires strong technical background and experience in HV substations, the primary responsibility is not the direct supervision or approval of HV subcontractor works, as these are inspected and approved by IPTO, but rather to manage interfaces, milestones, and stakeholder alignment to ensure that grid connection deadlines are met.

The role acts as the single point of coordination between the HV subcontractor, the Client, IPTO, and internal JUWI teams, ensuring schedule certainty, issue resolution, and proactive escalation. The role reports to the Project Manager.

You can look forward to the following tasks:

Grid Connection & Stakeholder Interface

  • Act as the primary interface between the HV subcontractor, IPTO, the Client, and internal JUWI teams for all HV substation–related matters.
  • Proactively manage IPTO approvals, inspections, energization prerequisites, and documentation required for grid connection.
  • Ensure continuous alignment between construction progress, IPTO inspection windows, and contractual grid connection milestones.
  • Coordinate and track grid critical path activities, identifying risks early and escalating deviations in a timely manner.

Schedule & Milestone Management

  • Own and monitor the HV substation schedule, with specific focus on milestones impacting grid connection and energization.
  • Ensure that delays or changes in HV works are assessed for schedule and commercial impact and communicated promptly.
  • Coordinate recovery actions with subcontracors and internal teams to protect grid connection deadlines.

Technical Coordination (Non Supervisory)

  • Review HV substation designs, construction methodologies, and sequencing from a constructability and schedule risk perspective, not as the approving authority.
  • Support IPTO inspections by ensuring readiness of works, documentation, and site access.
  • Coordinate resolution of technical queries, non conformities, and interface issues raised by IPTO or the Client.

Governance, Reporting & Escalation

  • Provide clear and regular reporting on grid connection readiness, risks, and mitigation actions.
  • Escalate grid critical issues early to Project Management and senior stakeholders to avoid late surprises.

Ensure consistent application of lessons learned across projects and portfolios (e.g. Clover, Domokos).

Commercial & Contractual Awareness

  • Support the Project Manager and Contracts team by identifying HV related contractual risks, delay exposure, and change implications.
  • Coordinate substantiation for milestone payments linked to HV progress and grid connection.

Your energy is required

You impress us with these qualifications:

Technical Background

  • Engineering degree (civil, mechanical or electrical), or relevant
  • Proven senior experience in HV substations and grid connection works for PV and/or BESS projects.
  • Strong understanding of IPTO standards, inspection processes, energization requirements, and permitting interfaces.
  • Ability to read and understand HV drawings, specifications, and grid connection documentation.

Interface & Coordination Skills (Critical)

  • Demonstrated experience in multi stakeholder coordination involving TSOs, clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Strong capability to manage dependencies, interfaces, and external authorities without direct line control.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to drive alignment and decisions across organizational boundaries.

Schedule & Risk Management

  • Solid experience in schedule driven project execution, particularly around grid critical paths.
  • Ability to identify, quantify, and mitigate grid connection and energization risks.

Governance & Ways of Working

  • Comfortable operating within matrix organizations and centralized functional structures.
  • Proactive mindset toward early escalation, transparency, and disciplined reporting.
  • Ability to capture and transfer lessons learned across projects and portfolios.
You have more to offer? We will gladly consider it. You don't meet all the requirements? No problem. We look forward to receiving your application.
